Butterflies is one of the biggest names in Bangkok gogo bars. Located on the top floor of Nana Plaza on Sukhumvit Soi 4, it is huge, flashy, usually busy and almost impossible to overlook.

The reputation is enormous.

But is Butterflies actually one of the best gogo bars in Bangkok?

That is a more complicated question.

Butterflies is absolutely a gogo bar you should see at least once. The enormous room, powerful nightclub atmosphere, multiple stages and sheer number of dancers make it very different from many of the smaller bars scattered around Nana Plaza.

But after visiting again in January 2026, my personal opinion is that Butterflies may be one of the most famous gogo bars in Nana Plaza without necessarily having the best lineup of girls.

And that distinction matters.

Where Is Butterflies Gogo Bar?

Butterflies is located on the top floor of Nana Plaza, at 3-1/1 Sukhumvit Soi 4 in Bangkok.

According to the venue, Butterflies is the largest gogo bar in Nana Plaza and can feature as many as 140 dancers and hostesses, along with two main stages, a large Jacuzzi and an elaborate lighting and sound system.

Those numbers alone explain why Butterflies has developed such a huge reputation.

Walk into many Bangkok gogo bars and you may find one relatively small stage with perhaps a couple of dozen dancers rotating through the room.

Butterflies feels much more like a nightclub.

There is space. There is movement. There are girls everywhere. The lighting is elaborate, the music is loud, and the room has enough activity to keep a first-time visitor looking in every direction.

For someone visiting Nana Plaza for the first time, it certainly delivers the spectacle people expect from Bangkok nightlife.

Why Is Butterflies So Famous?

Butterflies did not become famous by accident.

The venue opened in December 2016 after the owners of nearby Billboard took over the former Jail Birdz space. The enormous room initially proved difficult to fill, but the concept evolved and the number of dancers increased substantially.

By 2018, Butterflies was reportedly filling its stages with around 100 women per night, eventually growing toward the much larger lineup for which it became known. Major upgrades to the lighting, sound and air-conditioning followed.

That history explains what Butterflies is today.

This isn’t supposed to feel like an intimate little beer bar with a stage.

It is designed as a big-room Bangkok gogo experience.

The venue itself calls Butterflies “Nana Plaza’s nightclub,” and that is probably the most accurate description.

The Atmosphere: This Is Where Butterflies Excels

If I were reviewing Butterflies purely on atmosphere, it would score very highly.

The bar feels alive.

The size of the room gives it an immediate visual impact, while the combination of stages, dancers, music and constantly changing lights creates the feeling of a genuine nightclub rather than simply another gogo bar.

The venue says its setup includes more than 320 computer-programmed lights, an oversized Jacuzzi and a nightclub-style sound system.

You don’t need to count the lights to notice the difference.

Butterflies looks expensive.

It feels polished.

And when the place is busy, which it often is, the crowd itself adds to the energy.

For a group of friends or somebody experiencing Nana Plaza for the first time, Butterflies is an easy recommendation simply because of the scale of the place.

What About the Girls?

This is where my opinion differs from the hype surrounding Butterflies.

Butterflies unquestionably has a lot of women.

But quantity and quality are not necessarily the same thing.

During my January 2026 visit to Nana Plaza, Butterflies and Billboard were again among the busiest and most talked-about gogo bars in the complex. But personally, I found the overall quality of the dancers less impressive than the reputation suggested.

Some of the women were attractive, of course. With a lineup this large, you are almost certain to find women you like.

But compared with some smaller Nana Plaza gogo bars, I found many of the dancers fairly average looking, and the average age also appeared somewhat higher.

That surprised me.

You hear so much about Butterflies that you naturally expect to walk through the door and see the strongest lineup in Nana Plaza.

That was not my experience.

In fact, on the same trip I found smaller venues such as Red Dragon considerably stronger when judging purely by the average attractiveness of the dancers.

That doesn’t make Butterflies a bad gogo bar.

Far from it.

It simply means you should not confuse the biggest lineup with the best lineup for you.

Butterflies vs Smaller Nana Plaza Gogo Bars

This is one of the most important lessons I have learned from visiting gogo bars in Thailand.

The most famous bar is not necessarily where you will find the girl you like most.

Butterflies may have an enormous selection, but it also attracts enormous customer traffic. The women working there have plenty of choices as well.

Walk into a smaller, quieter Nana Plaza gogo bar and the situation can be very different.

There may only be 15 or 20 dancers in the room, but one of them could be exactly your type. And because the bar is quieter, you may receive considerably more attention.

That is why I never recommend spending an entire Nana Plaza night inside one famous venue.

Go into Butterflies.

See it.

Enjoy the atmosphere.

Have a drink.

Look around.

Then keep exploring.

Nana Plaza is compact enough that you can visit several gogo bars in the same evening without travelling anywhere.

Butterflies vs Billboard

Butterflies and Billboard dominate the top floor of Nana Plaza and are closely connected historically.

They are also two of the bars most frequently recommended to tourists.

But they offer slightly different experiences.

Billboard has long built its reputation around visual entertainment and its distinctive stage setup, while Butterflies leans harder into the large nightclub atmosphere.

Butterflies feels spacious, energetic and busy. There is constantly something happening somewhere in the room.

If your priority is simply experiencing one of Bangkok’s most famous large-scale gogo bars, either venue belongs on your Nana Plaza crawl.

Personally, however, I would not automatically assume either has the best girls in the building.

Look around Nana Plaza before making that decision for yourself.

Butterflies Prices

Prices in Bangkok gogo bars change, so treat any published figures as a guide rather than a guarantee.

During my January 2026 Nana Plaza visit, typical prices around the complex were approximately:

• Lady drinks: 220–250 baht
• Barfine: around 1,000 baht
• Basic drinks: water could be found from around 130 baht

Individual venues, premium drinks and individual arrangements can vary.

Butterflies is not somewhere I would visit expecting a cheap night.

It is one of Nana Plaza’s flagship venues, and if you start buying multiple drinks and entertaining several ladies, the bill can climb quickly.

Check prices before ordering, keep track of your bill and never assume that what you paid on a previous visit will still apply.

Best Time to Visit Butterflies

Butterflies officially opens nightly from 8 p.m. until late.

Personally, I would not arrive extremely early if your goal is to experience Butterflies at its best.

This is a venue that benefits from a crowd.

Once the room fills, the lighting, music, dancers and customers combine to create the atmosphere that made Butterflies famous in the first place.

If you arrive while Nana Plaza is already active, you are much more likely to understand the hype.

Is Butterflies Good for First-Time Visitors?

Yes.

In fact, this may be one of Butterflies’ greatest strengths.

If somebody has never seen a Bangkok gogo bar before and wants to understand what Nana Plaza is all about, Butterflies provides an immediate introduction.

It is big.

It is loud.

It is full of dancers.

It is visually impressive.

And it normally has enough customers that a newcomer doesn’t feel like the entire bar is watching him walk through the door.

You can sit down, order a drink and simply take everything in.

For that reason alone, Butterflies deserves its place among the essential Nana Plaza gogo bars.

Final Verdict: Is Butterflies One of Bangkok’s Best Gogo Bars?

Butterflies is unquestionably one of Bangkok’s most famous gogo bars and one of the signature venues in Nana Plaza.

It deserves much of that reputation.

The scale is impressive. The nightclub atmosphere is excellent. The lighting and sound are far beyond what you will find in many smaller Bangkok gogo bars, and the enormous number of dancers gives you plenty to look at.

But would I call Butterflies the best gogo bar in Bangkok?

No.

At least not based on my most recent visit.

For me, the hype surrounding the quality of the dancers is greater than the reality. I have found stronger individual lineups in smaller Nana Plaza bars.

But that doesn’t mean you should skip Butterflies.

Quite the opposite.

Butterflies should absolutely be part of your Nana Plaza bar crawl.

Go inside and experience one of Bangkok’s biggest and most famous gogo bars for yourself.

Just don’t stop exploring because somebody told you the biggest bar must also be the best.

In Nana Plaza, sometimes the real surprise is waiting one floor below—or behind the door of a much smaller bar.
