One of the confusing things about Bangkok is that two massage shops can look almost identical from the street, but the experience inside can be completely different.
One is a normal Thai massage shop.
The other offers erotic massage, happy endings, body-to-body, Nuru or other extras.
So how do you actually know before you walk in?
Sometimes it is obvious. The venue may advertise Nuru, body-to-body or other adult services directly. The atmosphere, lineup, opening hours and pricing can also give you clues.
But many places are much less clear.
A shop may simply say “oil massage” or “special massage,” and that can mean almost anything. In some places, extras may be discussed only after you choose a masseuse. In others, nothing beyond a normal massage is offered at all.
Personally, I think the biggest mistake is assuming.
If you are specifically looking for a massage with extras in Bangkok, it is much better to know what kind of place you are entering before you sit down, choose a lady and start negotiating.
A few things can help:
* Check whether the venue has a website or menu showing adult services.
* Look at the type of massage being promoted: Nuru, body-to-body, Jacuzzi and similar services are usually pretty clear signals.
* Check reviews or forum reports from people who have actually been there.
* Ask the receptionist what packages are available before choosing anyone.
* Most importantly, do not assume that every late-night massage shop offers sexual services.
The difficult part is that Bangkok has everything from completely normal neighborhood massage shops to high-end erotic massage parlors, and sometimes they can be only a few doors apart.

The best advice I can give is this: don’t rely too much on what the place looks like from outside.
Some very ordinary-looking Bangkok massage shops offer extras, while some places with attractive girls standing outside are completely legitimate massage businesses.
The clearest signal is usually the menu.
If they openly list Nuru, body-to-body, Jacuzzi or similar services, you know what kind of place you are dealing with. If the menu only says Thai massage, foot massage and oil massage, I would not assume anything else is available.
A lot of misunderstandings happen because guys think “oil massage” automatically means happy ending massage. It doesn’t.
Ask before you pay. Much easier than trying to figure it out halfway through the session.
I agree that asking the receptionist is the safest way.
You don’t need to make it awkward either.
Just ask what packages they have and what is included.
At a proper erotic massage parlor in Bangkok, they usually understand exactly what you are asking and can explain the options.
Where I would be careful is with vague answers like “up to the lady” or “you talk inside.”

I also look at photos of the rooms.
A normal Thai massage shop usually looks very different from a purpose-built erotic massage venue with private rooms, showers, air mattresses or Jacuzzi facilities.
Forum reports are useful too, especially recent ones.
The problem with old reviews is that Bangkok massage parlors change staff, management and services all the time.
Something somebody wrote three years ago may have very little to do with the place today.
Price can be a clue, but I would never use price by itself.
A 300-baht foot massage is obviously not the same business model as a 2,500-baht private Nuru package.
But there are also expensive legitimate spas in Bangkok where absolutely no extras are offered.
That is why I think guys get into trouble when they use one signal only.
Late opening hours, attractive lineup, private rooms, higher prices, sexy advertising — all of those things might point toward an adult massage venue, but none of them proves anything individually.
The combination matters.
If the website, menu and receptionist all make it clear, then there is no mystery.
One thing worth mentioning is that “extras” can mean very different things depending on the venue.
Some guys hear massage with extras in Bangkok and assume every place offers the same service.
They don’t.
One parlor may specialize in happy ending massage. Another may offer Nuru or body-to-body. Another might have Jacuzzi packages. And some shops may only offer a normal sensual oil massage with nothing sexual included.
So I think the useful question is not just “do they offer extras?”
It is:
Exactly what does this particular package include, how long is it, and what is the total price?
Get those three answers before starting and you avoid most of the confusion.
And obviously, whatever is advertised, the masseuse herself still gets to decide what she is comfortable providing. Never assume something is included just because another girl or another venue offered it.
